History: Daniel met Cede when she is in her sophomore year and himself a junior, and made a point not to date her but to be friends when they had first met. Back then, Danny liked to think he had morals and wouldn't date girls younger than himself, but that didn't last long. The two going from being best friends to dating within two weeks, you could say they were perfect for awhile. Daniel found his attraction in her aggression and was just as enthusiastic in their relationship, constantly they would fight, but always "made up" for it later. A lot of their relationship was in the drug deals Danny had began starting. Mercedes always a good seller, they made a partnership that simply made their relationship better. In the middle of Cede's junior year was when she went clean and dropped the drug deals and the rather on-edge lifestyle that she had had with Danny. Daniel didn't go with her in her lifestyle change and this brought up problems in the relationship. Ultimately, the two couldn't keep dating and Mercedes broke it off with Danny. Daniel, being bitter, brushed it off, but still was able to stand being friends with her. The two still talk, but never about drugs, and even with Cede's rise to power, Danny could care less about the politics of it.

History: Atticus was a bit nervous around Mercedes when he first met her. She was a strong woman with a purpose, but it was that drive that drew him to her. They first talked at a dance club when they ended up dancing close by, and a little-bit-tipsy Atticus stumbled into her. They had laughed it off, but it got them talking. She is his only close female friend, and he feels comfortable talking with her about things he just can't say to his male friends. They don't share everything, but he knows he can trust her. To Atticus, trust is the most important thing: It is the basis of any friendship.

Despite never speaking, Sun saw her once near the elementary school when he was tutoring a fourth grader on the violin. Her innate ease and the children's consequent adoration of her only spurred his quiet fascination. He smiles, albeit just a subtle twitch of his lips, whenever he sees her.

History: Naoko sees Mercedes as more than a human being- she is an unobtainable goddess to him. Just her presence tends to soothe his mental distress to the point he can carry on a normal conversation with her. Their meeting was a coincidence as it were in his second year of freshman English class, and when she talked to him, he couldn't have been more shocked. He considers Cede a friend, and like all of his friends, puts his deepest trust in her. He admires her strength, courage, and ability to control everyone around her, and because of this, he wants to keep her safe, though he knows that she can handle any trouble herself.
